In Waalre, near the center of Eindhoven, 26 sustainable, energy-efficient and social rental apartments are being built in solid wood construction on Frederik Hendrikstraat by binderholz. They are located around a communal courtyard with a gross floor area of 2200 m² and create a green, open, and inviting living environment. The apartment units vary in size from around 57 to 75 m².

The binderholz b_project team was responsible for structural engineering, design engineering, production and supply of the solid wood elements and the associated fasteners, building components and connectors. In addition, the installation of the complete mass timber structure and its supervision were also carried out.

“We offer a fully inclusive service for design, supply and installation of mass timber superstructures, from forest to construction site. We stand for cost-efficient timber solutions, all-in-one services and high-end binderholz mass timber products. In our ‘Timber Brain’ in Hallein, we have over 135 experienced professionals, including wood technicians, engineers, technicians, project managers, sustainability experts, assembly specialists as well as sales and field service representatives.” -binderholz.

b_project is part of the binderholz group, which is family owned. In the timber industry, the name Binder is associated with a sense of tradition and integrity, combined with modern technology and innovation. From humble beginnings as a small sawmill more than 70 years ago, the family-run binderholz has grown into a fully integrated group of companies that utilises state-of-the-art technology and manufacturing methods.

Besides its original headquarters in Fügen, Austria, the binderholz Group operates 60 other sites. Some 6,000 employees at Austrian, German, British, Latvian, Finnish and US sites share their passion for wood.

Sustainability with binderholz

At binderholz, sustainability is more than just a principle – it’s the purpose behind everything they do. They believe that the way we build today defines the world we live in tomorrow. That’s why the company chooses wood: a renewable raw material with a minimal environmental footprint and extraordinary potential to combat climate change. With each of their mass timber projects, they aim to create more than just buildings – binderholz creates climate-conscious solutions for generations to come.

Binderholz processes exclusively wood from sustainable and controlled forestry. All European production sites of binderholz are certified according to the standards of PEFC, a leading global certification for ensuring sustainable forest management. The PEFC seal certifies the sustainability of the binderholz value chain from the raw material to the finished product. For this purpose, the use of wood from sustainably managed forests and the careful and appropriate use of resources are regularly monitored by independent third parties.
