ANDRITZ's R&D Program

BioCircleToZero is a comprehensive research and development effort that ANDRITZ has launched with the goal of enhancing the value of wood without cutting down new trees.

ANDRITZ will launch and spearhead broad collaboration and research and development initiatives with businesses, academic institutions, and research institutes as part of BioCircleToZero. With an emphasis on boosting resource efficiency in the forest products sector and bolstering its role in the green transition, this ecosystem is anticipated to involve over 100 partners throughout Finland. It is anticipated that about 100 million euros will be invested in ecosystem projects over the course of the following five years, including money from Business Finland. Business Finland, the government’s hub for fostering investment and trade, has awarded 10 million euros to ANDRITZ for the BioCircleToZero project. Partners participating in the program will receive a surcharge of 20 million euros from Business Finland.

In many respects, forests are essential to the climate. They must be utilised as sensibly and effectively as possible because they are a valuable and finite resource. By creating the groundwork for leading-edge biorefineries that can generate a variety of high-value products based on biocarbons while reducing waste and emissions, the BioCircleToZero initiative aims to optimise the sustainability and efficiency of forest exploitation.

The program covers developing new wood products, streamlining processes, optimising waste use, and improving production sustainability, specifically linking pulp mills to decarbonisation efforts. BioCircleToZero by ANDRITZ aims to speed up the forest industry’s shift to sustainability, maximising value from trees and safeguarding forests for the future.
