Ahlstrom recently welcomed Jyrki Vainionpää as the member of Board of Directors and President and CEO of A. Ahlström Corporation.

Ahlstrom recently welcomed notable change in the composition of its Board of Directors. The company has appointed Jyrki Vainionpää as the member of Ahlstrom’s Board of Directors as of December 11, 2023. Jyrki, who is independent of the company and non-independent of its significant shareholders, also assumes the role of President and CEO of A. Ahlström Corporation as of December 11. Lasse Heinonen, who left the position as President and CEO of A. Ahlström Corporation, on December 8, leaves his position as a member of Ahlstrom’s Board of Directors.

”I am very eager to start as the CEO of A. Ahlström. We aim for sustainable value creation through active ownership with main focus on forest and fiber as well as environmental technology sectors. Value creation through active ownership is difficult. However, A. Ahlström has over 170 years of track record in the focus sectors, legacy of ambition and responsibility and most importantly an impressive network of people. Having met some of these persons I sense strong support and commitment,” says Jyrki Vainionpää.

Jyrki is also a board member in Terrafame, a company that supplies responsibly produced chemicals to the global battery industry. He was most recently CEO of Finnish transport company Koiviston Auto, which is a portfolio company of CapMan, a Nordic private asset management and investment company. He has previously been CEO of Adven, a company producing industrial energy solutions, and deputy CEO, COO, and CFO of Vapo, a developer and supplier of bioenergy. He even worked at Nokia, Dresdner Kleinwort, and McKinsey, and he has a broad experience of strategy and M&A.

Jyrki is a Finnish citizen and has a Master of Science degree in Economics, and he is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).

Speaking about the recent change, Ivano Sessa, Chairman of the Board said, “I’m happy to welcome Jyrki to Ahlstrom’s Board. Jyrki’s background in strategy and leading companies in different sectors will bring valuable insight and perspective as Ahlstrom moves forward on its growth transformation journey. I wish to thank Lasse for his work and dedication on Ahlstrom’s Board during the past five years.”
