This year marks a significant milestone for ADLER, one of Central Europe’s leading manufacturers of paints and varnishes, as the family-run business celebrates its 90th anniversary. Founded in 1934 as a small paint shop in Schwaz, ADLER has grown into an industry leader, particularly renowned for its environmentally friendly water-based varnishes. To commemorate this achievement, ADLER hosted a special event under the theme “Best Vintage 1934,” inviting local residents who, like the company, are also celebrating their 90th birthdays this year.
A Day of Shared Memories and Celebration
The event, held at the ADLER factory in Schwaz, brought together around 40 guests from the region. These guests, all born in 1934, enjoyed an afternoon of coffee, cake, and wine. Each attendee also received a generous gift package presented by Claudia Berghofer, Head of Corporate Communications at ADLER. Senior ADLER executive Günther Berghofer and his daughter Claudia mingled with guests, sharing memories of the company’s early days and its remarkable evolution.
The event included a guided tour of ADLER’s state-of-the-art water-based paint factory, the most advanced of its kind in Europe. “I still remember when ADLER was just a small shop. It’s incredible to see how far it has come,” said one of the senior guests, reflecting on the company’s growth.
Claudia Berghofer expressed her delight at the gathering: “Our family business has been deeply connected to the Schwaz region since the very beginning. It’s a true honor to celebrate with such special guests today and to reflect on nine decades of shared history.”
Looking to the Future
ADLER’s 90th-anniversary celebrations will culminate in November with a traditional company event, where the entire ADLER team will raise a toast to the company’s enduring success and its bright future.
ADLER: A Legacy of Innovation and Sustainability
With approximately 730 employees, ADLER stands as Austria’s premier producer of varnishes, paints, and wood preservatives. Founded by Johann Berghofer in 1934, the company is now led by Andrea Berghofer, the third generation of the family to take the helm. Each year, around 21,000 tons of varnish are produced at ADLER’s Schwaz facility and distributed to over 30 countries worldwide.
ADLER operates sales branches in Germany, Italy, Poland, the Netherlands, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia, with its sole production site located in Schwaz, Tyrol. A pioneer in sustainability, ADLER became one of the first companies in the industry to achieve climate-neutral production in 2018. Through a combination of emission-reduction strategies and climate protection certificates, ADLER continues to minimise its environmental impact while supporting global climate protection initiatives.
