Metsä Wood introduces sustainable neighbourhood with Kerto LVL

 Friday, September 3, 2021

Metsä Wood once again wows the society with unique structural innovations. With a vision to encourage sustainable living in Verksbyen area in Norway, Metsä Wood’s Kerto LVL (laminated veneer lumber) has been used to tell a tale of responsible living. Prefabricated elements have been used to construct blocks of ecological apartment buildings.

Fredrikstad’s new green neighbourhood, Verksbyen, will soon serve as the home for  some 5,000 people within the next 10 years. It aims as one of the Norway’s most innovative housing project. Other ambitious projects are in line.

Metsä Wood is an important partner in the project as the makers are making use of Kerto® LVLproducts. Metsä Wood the brand has a distinguished history of manufacturing and supporting tall wood projects. Building with sustainably sourced wood is also an environmentally friendly and sustainable way to build now and in the future.

“Constructing with prefabricated elements using Kerto® LVL products, we reduce both building time and CO2 emissions quite substantially compared to the traditional way of building with steel and concrete. Also, the dimensional accuracy of Kerto LVL is a benefit, as the materials do not shrink during construction,” says Hansen.
