Schmalz establishes construction project in China

 Wednesday, December 2, 2020

The vacuum specialist Schmalz celebrated the start of construction of a modern administration and production building in Taicang, China. From there, the market leader in vacuum technology intends to serve the Chinese market.

About a year ago, the company acquired a 26,000 m² plot of land in Taicang. Taicang is located about 50 kilometers northwest of the center of Shanghai. The new headquarters of Schmalz China will be built there, where vacuum technology will be produced, especially for the Chinese market. The “Hi-tech Industry Development Zone Taicang” offers Schmalz the best conditions for long-term growth – more than 300 German companies are now located in the city of 500,000 inhabitants in Jiangsu Province. “Taicang is not only a preferred production location for many medium-sized German companies, but has also developed into an important research location. We can only benefit from networking with these companies,” says Dr. Kurt Schmalz, Managing Director J. Schmalz GmbH.

Schmalz China is one of the most important sales and production companies in the Schmalz Group and currently employs around 120 people. The new Schmalz factory covers an area of around 7,500 m². A modern production and logistics building and a three-storey office building with sufficient space for office space, showroom, meeting rooms and a modern company restaurant will be constructed. The corporate philosophy of sustainability will also be implemented in this new building through a resource-saving construction method and environmentally friendly energy supply and use. For example, the buildings are cooled using geothermal energy with geothermal probes and a large-area photovoltaic system. Schmalz plans to move into the new building in autumn 2021. “With our new location, we are well equipped for further growth in the growth market of China and can provide our customers with optimal support on site. This is an important success factor for the future of the Schmalz Group and a commitment to China as a location,” says Andreas Beutel, Managing Director J. Schmalz GmbH.
