Minimax presents new fire protection solution

 Friday, January 1, 2021

Minimax has received VdS approval for an innovative fire protection solution: It protects hazardous material storage with a sprinkler system with foam admixture. The concept scores with high personal and environmental safety, very fast, effective and locally limited fire fighting, minimal operational interruption in the event of a fire and low structural requirements. It can also be used in warehouses with larger containers such as IBCs and with narrow aisles.

The concept is based on the interaction of several components. In the event of a fire, the escaping liquid is specifically directed into the aisle. For this purpose, the shelves are on a base, and guide plates are used in the shelves. In the alley, liquid bars, so-called fuel stops, are set into the floor at regular intervals. They catch the flammable liquid and limit its spread in the alley. Special sprinklers are positioned next to the liquid bar, which ensure rapid triggering and targeted distribution of the extinguishing agent into the alley. In addition, additional, quick-acting sprinklers specifically apply extinguishing agent to the shelf. The concept enables fast,

High personal and environmental safety

These fire protection solution to dispense with a building-high flooding the protected space with extinguishing agent. Compared to extinguishing agents that are hazardous to people, such as light foam or CO₂, it offers greater safety. The risk of the extinguishing agent being carried over to deeper or neighboring areas is lower. The fast, targeted fire fighting and the low use of extinguishing agents also ensure a good environmental balance.

Very fast and effective fire fighting

The close arrangement of sprinklers both on the shelf and in the alley allows early fire detection and immediate fire fighting without warning. In conjunction with the liquid bars and the use of foam compound, fires with rapid, high-energy spread, such as when flammable liquids leak out of larger storage containers, can also be fought effectively.

Minimal operational interruption in the event of a fire Since

only the sprinklers in the affected area are triggered and the fire is fought quickly, there is only minor primary and secondary damage, e.g. due to thermal stress on the building and shelf structure, corrosion or short circuit due to the flooding of technical equipment (switch cabinets, ventilation system, conveyor systems ). But the removal of the extinguishing agent is also much easier than, for example, in a building flooded with light foam.
