Mayr-Melnhof Holz acquires Swedish sawmill group Bergkvist Siljan emrges as the third largest sawmill group in Europe. Mayr-Melnhof Holz, one of the leading companies in the European sawmill and wood processing industry, completes the acquisition of the Swedish sawmill group Bergkvist Siljan after approval by the competition authorities.

In December last year, the Austrian Mayr-Melnhof Holz Holding Group based in Leoben signed an agreement to take over the Swedish sawmill group Bergkvist Siljan AB (publ.) from ESSVP IV, advised by Orlando Nordics AB. With the approval of the competition authorities, the takeover will become legally binding on February 1, 2022.

The new locations in Insjön, Mora and Blyberg (all in central Sweden) ideally complement the existing sawmills in Leoben (Austria), Paskov (Czech Republic), Efimovskij (Russia) and catapult Mayr-Melnhof Holz to third place with around 5 million solid cubic meters European sawmill company. In the 2022 financial year, the company is also aiming for a cumulative annual turnover of more than one billion euros for the first time in its 170-year history.

“We look forward to working with our new Swedish colleagues. Together we will work out and use the synergy and growth potential in sales and technology. This will enable us to expand our market positions,” says Richard Stralz, CEO of Mayr-Melnhof Holz Holding AG, about the next steps. The brand name Bergkvist Siljan will remain after the integration into the Mayr-Melnhof Holz Group, the previous management will continue to run the company.
