Metsa appoints new member

Metsa Group appointed Eija Pitkanen as the new member of the cooperative’s Board of Directors as of 1 January 2023 by the Supervisory Board of Metsaliitto Cooperative during a meeting held on October 27, 2022. Pitkänen has a wealth of expertise working internationally on corporate responsibility issues.
She is the sustainability, ethics & compliance, and risk officer for Telia Finland Oy at the moment. She formerly held positions such as SVP, Sustainability at Stora Enso Oyj. Mikko Mäkimattila and Jussi Linnaranta were chosen to remain on the Board of Directors. After serving on the board since 2007, Timo Saukkonen will step down at the end of 2022.
Financial report for Q3
Recently, Metsa Group also released its financial reports. The group’s comparable operating result in January–September 2022 was EUR 966 million. Excerpt are as follows :
- In comparison to the prior quarter, the long-fibre pulp average sales prices climbed at the Metsä Group.
- In both Europe and North America, there was a steady demand for the folding boxboard produced by Metsä Board. In Europe, demand for white kraftliner marginally decreased.
- Compared to the second quarter, paperboards’ average prices in euro increased.
- For a folding boxboard mill in Kaskinen with an annual capacity of 800,000 tonnes, Metsä Board started pre-engineering. At the earliest, in 2024, a decision about the potential investment could be made.
- End of September marked the start of continuous production at the brand-new Rauma pine sawmill. The investment was worth about 260 million euros.
- In September, the renovated tissue paper machine at the Mänttä mill started producing continuously. With the investment, the machine’s output capacity grew by 15% and improved its production and energy efficiency.
- The ethics barometer’s results, which gauge how ethical the Metsä Group’s corporate culture is, have improved since the barometer’s debut two years ago.
