A fairytale manifested as architecture in Germany where a visitor centre emerges as a walk-in building sculpture on the premises of Rapunzel Naturkost GmbH in Legau. The new visitor centre is designed to be public and inviting and is intended to make Rapunzel’s leitmotif “We make organic out of love” tangible for visitors. A house is full of discoveries that invite guests to linger and participate in varied and emotional imparting of knowledge.

“There is still something more in our world where humanity and dignity seems to have less and less room. The most important aspect of this project is therefore not the object itself but the people who will work in the building and who will give visitors the Rapunzel experience.” Joseph Wilhelm, Managing director Rapunzel Naturkost German architectural firm haascookzemmrich STUDIO2050 brings alive elements of fair-haired Rapunzel’s fairytale in their latest architectural project, the new Rapunzel World, a visitor centre created as a ‘walk-in building sculpture’ on organic food producer and distributor Rapunzel Naturkost’s premises in Legau, in the district of Unterallgäu in Bavaria, Germany.

Inspired by the fairy tale nuances the building encompasses an enchanting, magnanimous, spiral wooden staircase that links all floors from the wine cellar to the exhibition as well as the roof terrace with its mesmerising view. Besides, the braid-like spiral staircase, copper piper of interlocking pots and floating roofs also signify the fairytale touch.
The new Rapunzel World makes the leitmotif of the company tangible with all senses. In the exhibition, visitors can learn interesting facts about cultivation, fair trade, and production as well as sustainable living at interactive stations.

“Observing the natural cycles of nature is a basis of organic farming. The architecture of the Rapunzel world also feels committed to the principles of an ecologically sensible circular economy,” Martin Haas, Founder and Partner at haascookzemmrich STUDIO2050.
