Siempelkamp receives order for SMC Press from USA

 Friday, June 28, 2019

In May, a US customer decided in favor of Siempelkamp for a SMC composites press system. This is the first time the Krefeld-based company has placed one of its composites press equipment in the USA.

The first contact, which was made in 2017 at the “Composites and Advanced Materials Expo” (CAMX) in Orlando, now resulted in a first order: The Composites Business Unit of the Siempelkamp Group, established in the market as a system supplier for composites presses, delivers a 1,200 US t-SMC press system to the new, US American customer. The Texan company will use this equipment for the production of fiber reinforced components used in infra-structure for road construction.

High-precision composite presses made by Siempelkamp have already been established successfully in Europe, Canada, Mexico, Russia, Turkey and Saudi Arabia. It’s Siempelkamp’s special expertise to supply complete system solutions for various industry applications. The focus here is on the modular press concept developed specially for composites technology with intelligent control of the four main cylinders – now equipped with the latest generation of energy-efficient drive technology. However, the company not only provides the actual press, but also develops complete systems with all upstream and downstream units for the production of the finished components.

The SMC press for the American customer will be assembled at Siempelkamp in Krefeld starting in September 2019 and put into operation. Benefit of the customer: After completion in Germany, the press components can be dismantled into larger functional assemblies and re-erected according to the plug & play principle in the USA. This reduces the installation time on site considerably, allowing a smooth take-over to the start of production.

“The new order from the USA documents that US customers are convinced of our competence in developing and delivering innovative and reliable composite press systems,” says Carsten Daub, Head of Composites at Siempelkamp.
