Schmalz inaugurates new production office in USA

 Friday, August 11, 2017

SCHALMZIn July of this year, the vacuum specialist Schmalz christened the new headquarters of its USA branch in Raleigh, North Carolina, an investment of around USD 6.5 million.

At the official opening ceremony, the managing directors of J. Schmalz GmbH and Schmalz Inc. greeted numerous government representatives, including the Lieutenant Governor of the state of North Carolina, Dan Forest, as well as Congressman David Price. Forest congratulated Schmalz for expanding to North Carolina and emphasized the significance of the event for the region. Managing Director Wolfgang Schmalz stressed the importance of the new facility for the company – and for the people in the area. “This opening is a huge step for Schmalz. For one thing, we’re creating the conditions necessary to be able to continue covering the rising demand in the US for vacuum solutions. For another, we’re making it clear that we stand by our locations and that we intend to take root worldwide.”

Ground was broken at the approx. six-hectare (fifteen-acre) site in August of 2015, and Schmalz moved in during the summer of 2016. The new production and office building stands near the company’s previous headquarters in Raleigh and offers 3,500 m² (nearly 38,000 sq. ft.) of modern rooms for product testing and assembly work. Along with light-flooded conference rooms and offices, the new building also houses a showroom in which customers and visitors can learn more about vacuum technology in automation and handling processes.

Schmalz intends to keep extending the Raleigh location

“Since its founding in 1999, Schmalz Inc. has grown rapidly. Today the Raleigh branch accommodates about 60 employees – a number which promises to grow in the months and years to come,” says Dr. Volker Schmitz, Managing Director of Schmalz Inc. “That’s why planning for the expansion of this location is already underway.” Work on the next expansion is planned to begin in 2018/2019.

The new production and office building is already the second significant construction that Schmalz has opened this year. Just in February, the Minister President of the German state of Baden-Württemberg, Winfried Kretschmann, inaugurated a Schmalz plant in Pune, India. Schmalz is headquartered in Glatten, in the Black Forest region of Germany, and has more than 1,200 employees worldwide at 18 locations.
