Schattdecor bagged Energy Future Award

 Thursday, August 1, 2019

Schattdecor has been committed to operating in an environmentally friendly manner since the company was founded. In 2012, the company launched the Energy Efficiency Project (e²) in order to better coordinate and implement energy-saving potential throughout the Schattdecor Group worldwide. The goal of the project is to reduce the group’s prior energy consumption (from the 2015 baseline) by 30% by the year 2025. Energy Future Rosenheim (Energiezukunft Rosenheim, abbreviated ezro) – an initiative that was also launched in 2012 – presented its 2019 Energy Future Award to the entire Schattdecor team in Thansau for a project in the Application and Processes category. In the Volksbank Raiffeisenbank Rosenheim-Chiemsee’s banquet hall, ezro presented the awards to a total of five companies that have made an exemplary contribution to successfully advancing the energy revolution in the city and district.

Schattdecor submitted an application for its “Optimization of the Production Machine Drying Process” project. At the company’s Thansau facility alone, the drying process was optimized on a total of twelve production machines to such an extent that, after implementation, the company was able to cut power consumption by approx. 15% and even reduce gas consumption by approx. 30%. Robert Brandhofer, who is responsible for technical projects in Thansau, developed the innovative solution, which distributes dryer output to each printing unit according to the amount of ink applied. “The incoming air blower is controlled according to demand by means of frequency regulation, and the exhaust fan control is optimized to achieve an individual air balance across the entire system,” said Brandhofer. The result is that the machine’s drying performance has been maintained and even improved, despite significantly reducing primary energy consumption.

The success of the e² project is not only due to these – recently award-winning – dryer optimization measures. The implementation of numerous ideas from Schattdecor employees across the group continuously helps conserve resources and thus protects the environment. Implementing a variety of different ideas is currently making a big difference, because the company has nearly achieved the goal it set back in 2012. As of today, the innovation and commitment of Schattdecor’s employees has already cut the group’s energy consumption by 25% – and this figure is sure to keep growing!
