After an eight-month construction period, the Minister President of the state of Baden-Württemberg, Winfried Kretschmann, inaugurated Schmalz’s new production and office building in Pune (India) on January 24. The new building offers an additional surface area of around 1,600 square meters – more than double the surface area of the existing building.
At the official inauguration, the company welcomed the Minister President along with the Minister of Economic Affairs of Baden-Württemberg Dr. Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut, the Minister of Transport Winfried Hermann, numerous deputies of the state parliament, State Minister Klaus-Peter Murawski, and further members of a 70-strong business delegation. Headquartered in Glatten (Black Forest, Germany), Schmalz employs more than 1,100 people worldwide and has locations in additional 16 countries. The company has had its own location in India since 1999. “It is a great honor for us to welcome the delegation accompanying the Minister President here in Pune. The visit emphasizes our good cooperation with the state government,” said Managing Director Wolfgang Schmalz. Schmalz India Pvt. Ltd. sells vacuum technology for automation and handling throughout India and has 115 employees as well as sales offices in Pune, Delhi and Chennai. At the same time, Schmalz manufactures different products in Pune, in particular for vacuum automation.
With the construction project, the company has laid the foundations for meeting growing demand for vacuum solutions now and in the future. The new building was constructed adjoining the existing building. “The knowledge we have acquired over many years in relation to all aspects of the local market helps us make important decisions as to whether and how we should continue to expand. Henceforth, we will have more than double our existing surface area for production, warehouses and offices – these are ideal foundations for continued growth,” said Wolfgang Schmalz. Besides modern workstations, a canteen will be available to staff.
Andreas Beutel, who is the Managing Director responsible for worldwide production, emphasized how important it is for the company to have its own branches in key international markets. “Alongside our main production location in Glatten, India is an important part of the worldwide network of the Schmalz Group – along with China and USA, it is one of our largest branches worldwide.”
