The International Wood Construction Conference (IHF2019) provides architects, engineers and builders with an opportunity to report on experiences, processes and goals related to wood structures and construction. At the same time, the conference provides an opportunity for architects, building officials, builders, craftspeople, practitioners and educators to learn about the latest developments and to exchange experiences.
Pollmeier attended IWCC which was opened on December 4 and concluded on 6th at Congress Innsbruck.
At the Opening Event of the IHF on Wednesday December 4, the framework conditions, solutions and potentials for housing construction in wood was scrutinized. As usual, this event was moderated by LIGNUM Holzwirtschaft Schweiz. The opening was followed by pre-conference seminars, the architectural seminar “simple, material-adapted and innovative” focused on a topic that attracted growing interest due to the complexity of many construction processes. In addition to the other two usual prologues (prefabricated housing, wooden house construction), this year a fourth pre-conference seminar “connection technology” was organized by the Aalto University of Helsinki.
On the second day of the core forum on Friday December 6, renowned speakers presented four parallel blocks projects from the fields of engineering structures, arena construction, multi-storey timber construction, and -in a new block- the “adventure wood research”. The IHF epilogue, moderated by the Vienna University of Technology, focused on aspects of resource storage and recyclability.
