Italy Witnessing Progress in Machinery Orders

AcimallThe Italian woodworking machinery sector is witnessing some serious revamp in order intake considering the figures of 2013. The quarterly statistics revealed by Acimall show a 2.7% decline in the number of ordering in the first quarter of the previous year. (in Italy: -2.4 %; abroad: -2.8 %). The second quarter also ended with a slight 1.1 % downturn (in Italy -1.4 %; abroad -0.9 %).


The third quarter then ushered in an improvement compared with the same stretch in 2012. Total order intake jumped 3.0 % on the back of an unexpectedly strong 14.4 % rise in domestic ordering, although foreign business remained slightly in the red at -0.3 %. The situation did an about-face in the fourth quarter. While domestic demand declined 5.7 % compared with the same stretch in 2012, orders from outside Italy were up 7.3 %. Total order intake thus swelled 4.8 %.


In another recent report published by Acimall the Italian industry of wood and wood-based materials technology achieved a 4.8% increase compared to the same period of the previous year. Foreign orders grew by 7.3%, while the domestic market decreased by 5.7%. The book of orders is at 2.2 months, while prices have been growing by 1% since the beginning of the year. In the October-December 2013 period, turnover increased.
