Groetsch combs- Rekindling the lost craft at LIGNA

 Tuesday, June 18, 2019

LIGNA 2019 visitors got the rare opportunity to explore through the art of restoring creativity through ages in the display of an array of unique wooden combs by  Melanie Groetsch and her daughters. Along with her daughters, Melanie Groetsch has indulged into keeping an old craft alive: in the factory of the great-grandfather, they make wooden combs.

More than 1,000 individual combs are made here every month – all in loving care. Sustainability is lived here: regional woods are processed, packed without plastic and, so to speak, produced with eco-electricity. So the comb-making of Melanie Groetsch is very much in vogue – but always remains true to its tradition and offers the right comb for every hair.

The largest wood working fair in the world is no longer restricted to showcasing of machine innovations and demonstrating advanced technology. It also served as a perfect destination to introduce unique products for innovators and creative artists connected with the woodworking sector. This gave the scope of demonstrating Hardwood combs to Groetsch family of Enzendorf, Germany. Handmade of local timber (pear, whitebeam, wild as well as true service – all of which are smooth grained, tight pored woods known for their hard and even texture) on the original 150 year old cutting machines, with teeth that are tapered, rounded at tip and base, polished on both interstitial and external faces, and fixed to laterally grained backs for flexible strength and support.

LIGNA 2019, thus encouraged the entire woodworking industry to indulge into experimentation, innovation and creativity to offer something new and unique to the users across the globe.
