Green Innovation is the keyword for Beijing Woodwork Fair 2016

 Wednesday, October 14, 2015

wmfThe 16th International Exhibition on Woodworking Machinery and Furniture Manufacturing Equipment (also known as “WMF 2016” or “Beijing Woodwork Fair 2016” ), as a prominent sourcing platform for woodworking technology and machinery, believes that innovation is the key component for sustainable and prosperous development. In response to industry need, a new exhibit zone of “Machinery for Green Production and Energy Saving / Machinery for the First Time Processing, Drying, Coating and Material Making” will be featured. Apart from introducing innovative technologies on reducing air pollutants and dust during furniture manufacturing, full range of energy-saving drying facilities will also be displayed. With these green furniture and wood product manufacturing solutions, buyers can easily tackle emission-control issues, enhance energy efficiency and cost control, as well as raise productivity at the same time.

With the changes in socio-economic environment, consumers are now in greater demand on green products. Furniture manufacturing is one of the highly polluting industries as pollutants like organic solvent and dust are dispersed to the air during varnishing and polishing. In line with the increasing concern over environmental protection, furniture manufacturing sector is turning to green and environmentally friendly initiatives.

Wood is one of the core materials that we commonly use in furniture making. The paints and adhesives applied during production however release hazardous Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) like nitrogen oxide, sulfur dioxide and benzene which are harmful to people’s health and the environment. These organic solvents are particularly intense in new furniture and furnishings that one can easily notice with the strong odors. In European Union countries, related policy has been adopted in 2004 to limit “the emissions of volatile organic compounds due to the use of organic solvents in decorative paints and varnishes”. While in China, legislations are in place to support this trend recently in July 2015. It targets to remove solvent-based wood coatings by 2017 in furniture making. All in all, green wood coating has become a global trend.
