According to the International Trade Centre, in 2010 the UAE was among the top thirty timber and wood importers in the world. During 2011, UAE imported USD 708.9 million worth of timber and wood products and during the same period, our re-exports of this commodity were USD 150.8 million.
Only UAE wood imports cross AED 5.2 billion. Statistics from the department of Dubai Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC) reveal that imports and re-exports of all types of timber into the region are at an all time high; a demand that has increased the need for specialist woodworking machinery and tools. Important trading partners in this regard include, among others; China, Malaysia, Germany, Iran and Oman.
