APF 2016 – The most exciting timber event to be held in September

 Wednesday, August 31, 2016

apfAPF 2016, the UK’s largest and most exciting forestry, woodland, arboricultural, trees and timber event will be the biggest and best event Confor presents ever staged in their 42 year history. Over 300 exhibitors have now booked sites, which is more than the record set at APF 2014 and the numbers are still climbing. Advance tickets sales are selling well to the anticipated 18000 visitors who will attend over the three days.

Exhibition Secretary, Ian Millward said “We have very nearly sold out of stand space so I urge any potential exhibitors to book soon to avoid disappointment”

The event will showcase the very best state-of-the-art machinery available and reflect everything that happens in the modern working woodland, forest and tree work sectors, everything from seed to sawmill. During the event over 300 tonnes of timber will be harvested and processed by the very latest hi-tec machines. The show not only represents the very hi-tec but all aspects of woodland and tree management and timber processing.

The show caters not just for the forestry, woodland and tree care industries but also fencing and will this year also be of significant interest to the farming industry with lot of machines and equipment designed for small woodlands and for adding value to small parcels of timber and individual trees. Producing and utilising timber as woodfuel whether as firewood or woodchips is also strongly featured as are biomass boilers.

The woodland crafts area has the largest display of traditional crafts you will find anywhere in the UK. Skills such as hazel hurdles, oak swill baskets, green oak carpentry, Sussex trugs, charcoal burning, polelathe turning, coracle making, hazel baskets, willow weaving, cleft chestnut can all be seen with many opportunities to have-a-go. There will be displays of timber extraction by horse and reminders of yesteryear with working vintage machinery.

There is a comprehensive series of topical seminars on the latest plant health issues and threats to our native trees from foreign pests and diseases by The Forestry Commission as well as workshops on worker health, training and safety issues. Every major woodland, forest and tree related association is represented.

There are some fantastic and rarely seen competitions to watch and enjoy. The Husqvarna World 25m poleclimbing championships will see around 50 of the very best climbers compete for the world title and Europe’s top 25 carvers will compete over three days for the A W Jenkinson and Tilhill Forestry European Chainsaw Carving Championships. The Först Trial Bike Display Team, the Komatsu UK forwarder driving championships and the world polelathe turning championships will also feature.
