AMSO is looking forward to participate at Delhiwood

 Friday, January 20, 2017

AMSOAmerican Softwoods (AMSO), the promotional partnership formed by three major U.S. softwood trade associations, has announced its participation in the fifth edition of DelhiWood, which is set to take place from March 1 to  4, 2017 at the India Expo Center and Mart, Greater Noida, in Delhi, India. The event will see the participation of seven U.S.-based softwood exporters under the banner of the American Softwoods Pavilion. AMSO’s participation at DelhiWood 2017 is aimed at promoting American softwoods and reinforcing its market presence in India, which recorded imports of USD 15.265 million of American softwoods in the first ten months of 2016.

A closer look at the latest data released by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) revealed that the total value of American softwood lumber exported to India for the period of January to October 2016 topped USD 7.122 million. In terms of species, Southern Yellow Pine and Douglas fir accounted for 68 percent and 16 percent respectively of the total value of U.S. softwood lumber exports to India. Particularly encouraging though is the fact that exports of U.S. softwood logs to India declined from USD 9.821 million to USD 7.826 million for the same period.

“We look forward to our participation at DelhiWood, which has fast become a ‘must attend’ event for the country’s wood and woodworking sector. The timing could not have been any better, as India’s timber sector has demonstrated an increased interest in American softwoods, more specifically in softwood lumber as opposed to logs as in previous years,” said Charles Trevor, Consultant to American Softwoods. “Given the positive projections for India, our participation at DelhiWood is aimed at encouraging the use of American softwoods for both internal and external projects and increasing awareness of commercially available species.” Charles added further.

DelhiWood has become the premier destination for woodworking professionals visiting biennially from across the globe. It has become Asia’s only dedicated business-to-business meeting place for the entire woodworking eco system. Leveraging the success of its previous editions, over 450 leading global brands from 30 countries are expected to participate at this year’s show. With 20 percent growth in exhibitors and a 25 percent growth in exhibition space, the organizers expect to attract 20,000 visitors from across the globe. As such, the show provides the perfect platform for providers of woodworking solutions, machineries, materials and components to showcase their products, innovative technologies and production scenarios to key furniture / kitchen manufacturers, architects, interior designers and builders.

“The American Softwoods pavilion will showcase the strength and variety of the different U.S. softwood species in addition to allowing participating softwood exporters to interact directly with decision-makers in the wood industry. In addition to representatives from CLC Hardwoods, West Fraser, Vanport International, Olympic Industries, Coast Clear Wood, and Robinson Lumber, AMSO staff as well as technical experts from the Oregon State University will be on hand to answer questions. We are positive that the show will offer us a strategic platform from which we can interact with our intended target audience and enable us to share more knowledge on the wide array of American softwood species and their significant potential for a range of applications,” concluded Trevor.
